About
SJIRC
St. John’s Institute and Resource Centre Ltd. was established in 2018 with the aim to contribute to the growing community of research and learning, while it supports local communities without adequate access to literacy and ICT learning materials for the young and old regardless of gender and background.
The History
2018
Registered as Legal Entity
SJIRC was duly registered in 2018 but didn't commence activities till 2022. This was primarily due to lack of adequate funds to fully esstablish. And secondly, the activities of the COVID-19 lock down affected the planning process but gave birth to the need to focus on providing the e-learning services for the convenience of home schoolers and busy professionals.
2022
Commenced Library Activities
SJIRC finally moved into a 2 bedroom apartment where it commenced it's community library services. The library enjoyed the donation of used books from neighbours and community members. The library commenced with one shelf of less than 100 books and currently has over 2,000 books.
2023
ICT Services Initiated
Our hunger to contribute ICT literacy came to life as we introduced the ICT centre. The centre largely supported the neighbouring underserved communities who are grossly illiterates in ICT. We plan to expand and support the community schools in our environs.
2024
Educational Competitions
2023 & 2024 enjoyed a combination of different Educational Competitions. We had a Spelling Bee and Story Telling Competition in 2023. This was done in conjunction with Know Thyself Human & Personal Development Foundation, and Lokogoma.com. In 2024, we had a Book Review Competition and the 2nd Edition of the Spelling Bee Competition. Competition were aimed at Children from 8 years to 17 years. The goal to build confident, smart, well spoken children at the centre.
